Funbook also supports 3G connectivity via USB dongle and Micromax is bundling a Tata Photon EVDO datacard with the tablet.It is available in two colours – slate grey and midnight black.

HCL Infosystems Ltd., unveiled two powerful products today – the HCL ME U1 and the HCL MyEdu Tab at a press conference held in New Delhi today. While the U1 is a trendy and stylish device, based on the latest Android ICS OS and designed specially to suit the needs of the Indian consumer, the MyEdu Tab caters to the needs of learners across schools and higher education institutions and provides personalized and collaborative learning.

The U1 is powered by the latest and super fast Android OS 4.0.3 ICS. The tablet has a front camera and 512 MB RAM, with an internal memory of 4 GB expandable to 32 GB. HCL ME U1 also has a full USB, mini USB and a Micro SD card slot. The U1 also provides for Wi-fi connectivity. The tablet also enables an exclusive access to the ME App store which has over 10000 applications.

The MyEduTab tablet is meant to cater to the needs of learners across schools and higher education institutions. The HCL MyEdu Tab comes in two variants – MyEduTab – K12 and MyEduTab – Higher Education (HE).

The price for the MyEduTab – K12 version is Rs 11,499, which includes the price of the device, content and a memory card while educational applications and NCERT books will be free.  On the other hand, the MyEduTab – Higher Education (HE) version is priced at Rs 9,999, which will include the device, educational content and online certification pack.

Replying to a query in the press conference, Mr. Gautam Advani, said that they would like to  participate in the second tender of Government of India depending upon the specifications stated in the tender. Our HRD minister must have a serious look at these tablets and given the volume of tablets required by the government, he can certainly negotiate good prices with HCL.

His dream project of Aakash tablet may not materialize as we understand that now the launch of revised version has been postponed to May. Mr. Kapil should lay its hands on HCL tablets which are available and will prove trustworthy rather than run after a product, which is neither available nor can be successful at the given price of around Rs. 2500/-.
